The 2010 Rules:
The MARMITE PRIZE FOR PAINTING is open to all. We will accept entry by post or e-mail.
As is the case with most open submission competitions, we have a set of rules devised to make the procedure fair and just for all applicants. Please read through these before submitting an application.
Primarily:
- We require you submit one work to the MARMITE PRIZE FOR PAINTING. One painting. You may be asked for further images at a later date to support your application and aid the shortlisting process.
- To enter you will need to complete the application form which you can download here.
- You must provide one image (high resolution j-peg on disk mac compatible or attached to e-mail no larger than 3mb).
- There is an entrance fee of £10.
- The entry is payable through paypal to: info@marmiteprize.org , or by cheque payable to: MARMITE PRIZE FOR PAINTING.
- Deadline for submissions is Friday 1st October 2010.
The Procedure:
- The paintings will be subject to two stages, shortlisting for exhibition by the selection committee, and subsequent judging by the judges.
- Shortlisted artists will be notified by the end of October when we will make arrangements to collect the work.
Winners will be announced at the final exhibition in London. - Shortlisted artists will receive two free copies of the catalogue.
- The catalogue will be launched at the exhibition opening and will be available to purchase throughout the exhibitions.
- You will receive confirmation of receipt of application, images and payment.
The Selection Committee:
- Marcus Cope, co-founder and curator of The Marmite Prize.
- Stephanie Moran, co-founder and curator of The Marmite Prize.
- Marie Holland, art curator, Tameside Museums and Galleries Service.
- Steve Dutton, director, Lanchester Gallery Projects.
- Sadie Kerr, research assistant, Lanchester Gallery Projects.
- Keran James and Michael Keenan, directors, studio1.1, London.
The Catalogue:
- It will be published by our sponsors Susak Press.
- The catalogue will be full colour.
The Prize:
- There will be one winner and two runners up.
- Along with the prestige of being a Prize Winner in the third Marmite Prize for Painting and the opportunity to be a judge at the 2012 Marmite Prize For Painting, the winner will also receive a specially comissioned Marmite by Bill Woodrow.
- The runners up will receive a pat on the back.

- The Nunnery, London, April 2011
The Dates:
- Entrance deadline Friday 1st October 2010.
- Notification of selection for exhibition, end of October 2010.
- Collection of work from artists first week of December 2010.
The Slightly Smaller Print:
- The third Marmite Prize is dedicated to Ida Applebroog.
- A marmite is a large earthenware pot.
- The Marmite Prize is curated by Marcus Cope and Stephanie Moran.
- While we endeavour to take the best possible care, neither the curators nor the gallery can be held responsible for loss or damage to work.
- There will be 50% commission levied on sales generated throughout the exhibition.
- The MARMITE PRIZE FOR PAINTING is in no way associated with the food product ‘Marmite'.
